I am relieved to finally announce a book signing at Toadstool of Keene, Sunday, May 12, Mother’s Day, at 4 pm.

“The History of South Woods and the Clark Family” is available at Toadstool of Keene, and online https://www.lulu.com/…/paperback/product-yvzyk99.html…

“How do you pronounce this word – automobile?” a young Carrie Wilder asked her grandmother and mother as they walked up Log Cabin Rd. to the center town church from the Ellis place, a hotel of sorts on a steep, winding road that crossed Camp Brook and linked Mill Hollow to Alstead Center. Carrie was 21 years old and about to embark on a four month’s long trip to New Jersey, which culturally was a million miles from her home in the center area of Alstead, New Hampshire. The Keene Electric Railway Co. had begun running an electric trolly in 1900, ice-man and blacksmith Guy Fairfield sold the first horseless Cadillac carriage in Keene to a Dr. Brown on West Surry Rd. in 1904, but Alstead Town Reports wouldn’t begin listing automobiles owned in Alstead until 1910. And, Carrie was going to the big city to be amazed.” Page 6

Proceeds benefit the Alstead Historical Society.
